Last October, I had the privilege of filming Isaac & Shelbi Gustafson’s wedding. Through getting to know Shebli, I have discovered that she is an avid blogger and runs the site Everyday Mrs. She writes about her wedding, home, and fashion – among other things. She has been featured on various home/fashion blogs. So, for today’s blog post, I asked the ‘Everyday Mrs.’ if she would be a guest blogger on my site and share her thoughts on hiring a wedding cinematographer (videographer).
While I was planning my dream wedding that took place last October I was thinking through how I was going to work my budget to get what I wanted and what a priority was for me. I knew that my photographer was part of my top priorities but as I began to search for ideas for my weddings through other blogs and Pinterest I started to see all of these wedding videos. These wedding videos however weren’t just your “average Joe” filming your ceremony, they were unbelievably beautiful films that captured the bride and groom in such a way that photographs on their own simply couldn’t do.
My wedding planner, Events by Ashley, suggested Nick Miller to me so I hopped online and took a peak at some of his wedding videos he had done. I was so impressed and immediately emailed him to set up a time to chat about what I was wanting in a wedding video. Nick was great to work with, not only is he amazingly talented in videography but he also has some amazing ideas. He had several suggestions for different ideas we could incorporate into our video. One of the suggestions was for my groom to be and I to write each other letters and exchange on the day of the wedding so that he could film us reading our letters from each other. I absolutely fell in love with this idea and am so glad he suggested it and that we did it. It’s so special to look back on our wedding day and see our true emotions pouring out to one another. The other idea was to have a first look between the groom and me before we walked down the aisle. I had thought about this already and really wanted the first time for my now husband to see me on our wedding day was when I was walking down the aisle. I had seen first looks of brides and grooms before in films and it’s adorable but it wasn’t the right fit for us and I’m glad we kept it the way we did and did the letters instead!
Looking back on our wedding day I’m so happy that I made it a priority for part of my budget to be spent on not only a photographer but a videographer as well. For anyone who is planning a wedding and thinking about hiring a videographer for your big day I highly recommend it and promise you won’t regret spending that money on one! I’m thrilled that we will have the highlight video, full feature film, the reception speeches, and ceremony filmed in its entirety for the rest of our lives! Nick and his wife did an amazing job and we are so thankful for their hard work in putting together something so special that we cherish dearly!
Thanks for the post, Shelbi! Make sure you visit Everyday Mrs!
Enjoy! Nick
