This past week I had the opportunity to attend WPPI in Las Vegas with my wonderful photographer wife, Jennifer! And let me tell you, it was fantastic! There were over 16,000 photographers, 350+ vendors, and a ton of information from the hundreds of classes/workshops through out the week. 

WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photography International) is geared toward photography, notso much wedding films, but I was still able to pick up a lot of very useful information. One of my major highlights of the week was getting to meet and chat with Rob Adams for a little while. Rob is a wedding cinematographer based in New Jersey who has used his knowledge to teach people (like me) who want to make quality wedding films. So, thanks, Rob!

Along with meeting Rob, I got the chance to talk to Zach Gray about… my beard – side note, one thing I am very prideful about is my beard. If you want to make me like you for always talk to me about my beard. It’s really awesome to know that these big time photographers were (at one point) where I am right now, and they’re not too cool to spread the knowledge.

I did learn a lot of business stuff, but I don’t think you want to read the pages of notes I have about client consultations or the ‘correct’ model to pricing. As I think about WPPI and all the stuff I learned one quote from Jerry Ghionis really sums up all the stuff I learned, “It’s not about 1 big thing, it’s about the 100 small things [that you do] to make you successful.” Here’s to the 100 small things!

Also, it was great meeting a few photographers who live in the Wichita area: Darrin Hackney, Sara McClure, and Amy Shepherd – Jennifer and I had a great time walking around WPPI and Las Vegas with this group. Thanks, guys!
